A Message from Sue
As a parent myself, I completely understand the fundamental need to gain trust and confidence within a setting, which was my main reason in opening Circus Day Nursery 18 years ago, wow how time flies. I firmly believe that we are a highly motivated staff team, dedicated to developing and expanding our knowledge and understanding in the childcare field and this is evident with all the ongoing training. We listen to children and actively involve them in the decision making process at their nursery and we focus on all the benefits children gain from indoor and outdoor play and activities, as our primary motivation. We encourage ongoing feedback from all our parents and we have an open door policy, in listening to how we can continually improve our service. This is reflected in our many achievements. As proprietor, I have an active role in the nursery, and firmly believe that by working together with parents, we exceed expectations.
Over the years we’ve achieved numerous awards recognising our hard work and efforts in making a positive difference in the lives of children in Gloucestershire. Our management and staff have academic and practical knowledge relative to child development, focusing daily on building self-esteem and confidence in young children – both proven to be factors in effective learning.
We follow the guidelines laid out by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) of what children need to be taught at each stage of their development and we are very much a child lead environment, enriching children’s ideas and creativity with support, direction and guidance from our professional practioners/teachers.
Often it is the interests of the children, that drive activities at Circus making learning a healthy balance of child initiated activities with adult direction. When a child became curious about the ukulele, and that interest grew to a few more children, we introduced ukulele lessons. This is just one example of how a spark of interest in one child can be developed to give that child and others at Circus Day Nursery an opportunity to grow and learn a new skill.
Situated in a tree-lined road in the prestigious Pittville area of Cheltenham, children are cared for in a beautiful period house, listed as a building of interest, which dates back to late 1800’s. The rooms are large, colourful and stimulating and the children are grouped by age and level by floors, allowing for age appropriate learning. The nursery has a wonderful garden in almost an acre of outdoor space and children are encouraged to spend lots of time outdoors in the fresh air, where they can explore and learn in a safe enclosed open space.
